Have you heard of hyperpigmentation? It’s a condition caused by excess amounts of melanin (a natural pigment) in the skin. The increase in melanin production is caused by both external and internal factors. The external factors include sun exposure, certain diseases, age, pregnancy and trauma, while genetics are the only internal factor for increased melanin production. People with darker skin are more prone to the condition.
Exposure to the dangerous ultraviolet rays from the sun can cause specks, spots and stains located on the face or hands. The UV-rays are disrupting the melanin production which results in transient or continuous discoloration.
Hyperpigmentation that occurs during pregnancy is called melasma, but this condition can affect men as well. Melasma is a common sign of pregnancy which is characterized by brown spots on the face that usually disappear after giving birth.
In order to treat hyperpigmentation, you can try the following homemade remedy:
1 teaspoon of powdered turmeric
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
Mix both ingredients well, then apply the paste on the affected areas and leave it to work for about 15 minutes. In the end, rinse with cold water. Use the treatment once or twice a day until you’re satisfied with the results. We recommend applying the mask before showering.
This amazing remedy is based on principles from the Ayurveda medicine which has been using it to reduce spots on the skin for centuries.
The secret of the remedy lies in its ingredients. Lemon can brighten your skin and peel it, while turmeric can provide the same properties and smoothen your skin as well.
Note: avoid exposing your skin to the sun after the treatment!
